What's in the area?
A lot! Here are a few things; it's easy to fill a week with activities if you or some of your group prefer that kind of vacation:
- Bicycling to Frankfort, or to Beulah: the designated bicycle path (no motorized vehicles allowed) passes conveniently close to the cottage. Once on it, pedaling west gets you to Frankfort, and east is Beulah. Time to get there varies on your bike and stamina, but half an hour to Beulah and an hour to Frankfort is a good estimate. You can always stop to rest
- Tubing down the Platte River: about 35 minutes north is the Platte River, and tubing down the river is a great way to spend an afternoon. It's free to tube and there's free parking. No white water, tubers should know how to swim or wear a life preserver. More details are at the cottage
- Visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes: you'll never see more sand in one place
- Shopping in Frankfort
- Visiting the Lake Michigan beach in Frankfort
- Golf at one of the local courses
- Visiting the outlet of Crystal Lake, which is just down Mollineaux Road (walkable or bikeable). There's a beach there as well as the spillway with rushing clear water
- Fishing in Crystal Lake or Lake Michigan (charters available in Lake Michigan)
- Kayaking down the Betsie River or the Platte River
- The Cherry Bowl drive in theatre. It's still enjoying its glory days, and has a double feature every night it's open. Bring your own food and popcorn, or visit their concessions
- Music and performances at Interlochen. World class events, less than an hour away
- I can't finish the list without mentioning the Cherry Hut restaurant. Sorry, it's basically required. It's in Beulah, so it's bikeable (30 minutes or so)
